Jen knows rugby

Women’s rugby is back under the leadership and guidance of Jen Ross.

James Bay Athletic Association is pleased to announce the commitment of former player and coach, Jen Ross, to fill the position of head coach of our Sr. Women’s team.

Jen returns to JBAA with a wealth of playing and coaching experience in both 7s and 15s rugby.

Jen began her rugby career in 1989 at Balmy Beach RFC, has played club and provincial rugby in Ontario and British Columbia, and was a member of the 1994-96 Canadian Women’s National 15s Team.

During Jen’s time in Victoria, she played a major role in women’s rugby on Vancouver Island and in BC. Jen was a member of the UVic Valkyries rugby team, player, and head coach of the JBAA women’s rugby team and member (and later coach) of the first women’s Crimson Tide rugby team. Jen was also an executive member with the Crimson Tide and West Coast Women’s Rugby.

Since her return from the UK in 2005, Jen has given much of her time and experience to the Fraser Valley rugby community. She has held roles of Manager, Youth Development Coordinator, Executive Board Member, VP and Head Coach at Abbotsford RFC, local area schools, FVRU and BC representative teams, and as head coach of the UFV women’s rugby 7s program since 2016.

Jen was the recipient of the Rugby Canada Female Coach of the Year 2013. Sport BC Female Coach of the Year 2014. BC Games Leadership Award 2016. Sport BC Hometown Hero Award 2017.

The members of James Bay Athletic Association look forward to welcoming Jen back to our club and to once again building a strong women’s program via her valuable knowledge, expertise, and leadership.
