U17 Boys trounce Langley

Glenn, coach of our U17 Boys team, posted a great write up on Facebook. Iā€™m repeating it here for everyone to see:

Well folks, the super bowl wasn't the only championship happening on Sunday, even though our's was unofficial. As the BCRU season started so late there wasn't time to have the age grade provincial finals before the December break. Being defending Champs from 2019 we challenged the mainland winners to a showdown and proved hands down this is one of the best U17 boys teams in Canada, trouncing Langley RC 64/0 at their home field. Finishing a four year undefeated run since the start of 2018 but yes there were no games in the 2020 season, which made this shortened season finally all the sweeter.

To put thing in perspective, in 6 league and 2 playoff games we scored 352 points with only 53 against. If you include the two exhibition matches it was 444 to 70. We also won the Westshore sevens and were hoping to defend our Kamloops sevens title but that tournament was cancelled at the eleventh hour.

The core of this group has been together for over five years and though some have left, others have come in and stepped up because they wanted to be a Bay. Two of these boys have been selected to the U18 Canada camp later this spring and I believe there are others in the picture below you will see donning red for their country some time in the future.

Huge thanks to our trainers this year, Narumi and Patricia. My side kick and ex Capilano, Will Ballard and our honorary coaches that came out on numerous occasions to inspire when they had time to including the week before heading to Dubi to play, Cooper Coats and Jake Thiel giving back to the rugby community. Huge love to you guys!

Last but not least is a shout out to Matty Bennett, who was hurt in the second half of the game. God speed my friend, the team is behind you.

That's about all I have to say about that except;

YOU CAN'T STOP THE BEAR!!!
